Dublin 2008 Study
Abroad Flyer
Spend summer at All Hallows College, Dublin, with an international
student body taught by faculty from DePaul and All Hallows. Explore
management and strategy in nonprofit nongovernmental, health care,
social service, association, education, government, and arts
organization management. Dublin offers one-week, executive-style courses
beginning Sunday evening and concluding Friday at 1 pm with pre' and
post-classes in the US. These courses are standard MPS four-credit
courses enhanced with international students, faculty and issues.
Students stay at All Hallows College residence halls. The beautiful
campus is conveniently located midway between the Dublin Airport and
City Centre. Rooms are single occupancy.
Course Schedule
MPS 500 - Introduction to Public Service Management
As the first course offered in the MPS program, it introduces student to
organizational theories and practices. Students learn how to use
structural, human resource, political and symbolic perspectives to
rethink organizations. We stress critical thinking and writing skills.
MPS 521 - Leadership and Management
Focuses on key factors which affect employee behavior. It addresses
research in leadership and management and the legal environment of
personnel management, in depth analysis of psychological systems,
interpersonal relations and the relationship of rewards to performance
through case studies and role playing.
MPS 522 - Fundamentals of HR Management
Focuses on factors affecting employee behavior and the nature and
purposes of supervisory roles. Deals with personnel planning, selecting,
motivating, evaluating and terminating employees.
MPS 529 - Strategic Planning
Students learn strategic planning concepts and tools to public and
nonprofit organizations to achieve organizational goals. The course
focuses on analyzing dynamic interactive rends, market forces,
stakeholders and core competencies.
MPS 542 - Policy Design and Analysis
This course focuses on processes and techniques of analyzing and
designing public policies. Students are introduced to defining and
modeling policy problems; designing and evaluating policy alternatives;
and anticipating problems of policy implementation.
